"Working in the broadcast side of the visual effects industry, CBS Animation has the added pressure of delivering on extremely short deadlines without sacrificing quality. Matt and his skilled team at 3DID understand this very well. We have come to trust 3DID to provide us excellent quality models, with little supervision..."

CBS Animation needed 3DID to recreate the International Space Station for a pilot shoot. The 9' X 7' scale reconstruction was a challenging model which had to look convincing and be durable, because it would be fragmented and reconstructed for multiple shoots.
The body of the space station was built over an aluminum frame to keep the structure light weight. The surface areas were constructed from over a thousand hand made, machined, and 3D output detail parts. Sculpting was added over these parts to increase the perception of texture and material. The solar paneling was made on a fragmenting frame, made from laser-cut iridescent panels, and were patched together section-by-section. The overall model weight upon completion was just under 120 lbs.
